I wish I was more like Gidget

It’s that time of year.  Bathing suit season.  I wanted a cute one but, kind of a modest cut one with maybe a retro feel to it.

Like one of these from the movie, Gidget goes to Hawaii.  Love the v-neck, the buttons, and their tiny waists!

Or this one from Modcloth.  But, I couldn’t justify spending $90 on a bathing suit! But, I do like the blue and the polka dots.

So, I found this at the Goodwill for $3.99.  (Now, let me say this,  I’ve never bought a bathing suit at Goodwill but, I made sure this one was in good condition.  I also washed it in hot water when I got home.)

I liked everything about this suit except for the pearl and gold buttons! They made it seem a little less Gidget and a little more old lady! (It’s actually more of a navy blue in person.)

So, I found some new buttons at Walmart for $1.50.  I just snipped off the old buttons and sewed on my new ones.

Much better and more my style! And only spent $5.50.  Now, I just need a pool and maybe a cute coverup!  Have you done any refashion projects lately? Leave a comment and tell me about it! -amy

Vintage Baby

I took these pictures of Oliver on Sunday wearing his vintage healthtex baseball shirt. It’s hard to get a good shot of him these days. He is into everything! Yesterday he actually crawled into one of the cabinets in the kitchen. Of course then he couldn’t figure out how to get out! He’s such a good baby though and you gotta love those cheeks!

Etsy shop preview

Here is a preview of  just a handful of vintage pieces that will be in my etsy shop hopefully this week!  I am very excited about this collection. I will let you know as soon as the shop is in full swing! -amy

The latest in nerd fashion

I really love these shoes! I found them on Saturday during the storewide 50% off day(it’s the first Saturday of every month here).  I usually skip this event because it’s a madhouse that day but Randy went with me and Oliver so, I felt like there was safety in numbers!  We also found those crazy nerdy glasses for 50 cents.  I am trying to convince Randy to get his own lenses put in the frames but apparently he doesn’t like geek chic!  He is sporting the vintage shirt I got yesterday and vintage cardigan though. It’s not his normal look but I think its cute! -amy

Thrifting Thursday

Went to Goodwill yesterday for 99 cents day…only found the vintage men’s shirt. The other two I had to pay full price. Bummer. But I am very excited about that sweater. It’s so spring-y with lil puffy flowers all over it and even on the back! That will be going into the shop real soon.(even though I’d really like to keep it) -amy

Movie Inspiration Monday

image

Sometimes I watch a movie just for the amazing sets or creative costumes.  So, for the first installment of Movie Inspiration, I chose Pretty in Pink starring Molly Ringwald.  This 80’s teen flick about a poor girl dating a rich boy but rich boy can’t deal with the pressure so he breaks her heart and then she has to sew her own prom dress to show the “richies” that they didn’t break her! Sorry, bad one sentence summary. Anyway, her clothes in the movie are awesome! The costume designer found all of Molly’s wardrobe at the thrift store! She gets to wear some adorable vintage cardigans and other great thrifted items.  I also had to give you a preview of some of the pink items that will be up for sale in my shop real soon. Now go and netflix Pretty in Pink. You won’t regret it!

Better late than never

So, I’ve been wanting a pair of winter shorts for awhile now(yes,I do realize its almost spring) but didn’t want to spend $50 or more on them. I found these 80’s gray wool pants on 99 cents day and thought that they would make really cute shorts. Check back today to see how they turned out! (I am actually working on them as I write this)
