write on, dude

Oliver, Wesley,  and I have been spending a lot more time outside lately.  I have been trying to think of fun stuff for us to do on the porch that will entertain Ollie and keep his attention.  He’s a very busy boy so, this is a challenge.

the table "before"

This is the first project that popped into my head.  I had this coffee table outside, it was already painted this funky green.  I thought why not make it into a chalkboard? I mean, all the cool kids are using chalkboard paint, I should too!

border taped off

So, I started by taping off a border about 3-1/2″ from the edge.  I actually did use a ruler and measure this, this may come as a shock for those of you who know me really well.  I usually just “eyeball” things!!

I, then, just started brushing on the chalkboard paint.  First, in one direction, then the other direction.  I did about 4 light coats altogether.  It didn’t take very long at all to dry.

Then, I just had fun and started drawing!!  I think this project is actually more for my entertainment and Wesley’s  than Ollie’s.  He does like to put the chalk in his mouth, though.  I’d love to hear about your plans for this summer to keep your children outside and entertained!! -amy

What a neat idea!!! Has anyone told you how brilliant you are!! Chalk in the mouth precedes soap in the mouth!! Have fun.

As my sister, I cannot refer to you as brilliant. (That would be against sibling rules). The table is cute though. You might want to draw trucks and stuff, not girly hearts! Have fun!
